Minimalism inspired street photography from my hometown. Forced myself to use only constricted color palettes and gave myself an hour to photograph. Listened to Terry Riley the entire time, usually music is the driving force behind what I decide to do or how I want to make photographs look so here is the outcome…

Thanksgiving Day on Mount Diablo

This mountain was the backdrop to my life for a long time. I grew up near the base of this mountain, went on countless walks and hikes, got lost on it many times, did mind expanding activities on it, sat and stared for hours, held seances, played guitar, chanted, whistled, took photographs, sketched, rock climbed, napped in caves and still occasionally have a re-occurring dream that I lose control around a curve and and drive my car off a cliff. I’ve missed this crazy mountain that has accounts of cryptozoology, hauntings, mysterious lights, and Fortean phenomena. It’s kind of my perfect mountain, really, and 7 years is too long.

The Middle Place

These photographs were taken between 2001-2005 as a way to distract from my fear of flying. It worked and I could now care less about flying. But working through this issue I found out that I wasn’t really scared of flying at all. I was scared of the middle place, in limbo, between life and nowhere. In limbo = not real. Me = brainwashed. Reason #270 for my extremely shaky and non-trusting feelings towards the religion I was brought up in. So even though I don’t believe in “in limbo”, I have turned it into a much nicer place, one I wouldn’t mind so much being stuck in.
