Listened to Terry Riley the entire time, usually music is the driving force behind what I decide to do or how I want to make photographs look so here is the outcome…

Thanksgiving Day on Mount Diablo

This mountain was the backdrop to my life for a long time. I grew up near the base of this mountain, went on countless walks and hikes, got lost on it many times, did mind expanding activities on it, sat and stared for hours, held seances, played guitar, chanted, whistled, took photographs, sketched, rock climbed, napped in caves and still occasionally have a re-occurring dream that I lose control around a curve and and drive my car off a cliff. I’ve missed this crazy mountain that has accounts of cryptozoology, hauntings, mysterious lights, and Fortean phenomena. It’s kind of my perfect mountain, really, and 7 years is too long.

The Middle Place

These photographs were taken between 2001-2005 as a way to distract from my fear of flying. It worked and I could now care less about flying. But working through this issue I found out that I wasn’t really scared of flying at all. I was scared of the middle place, in limbo, between life and nowhere. In limbo = not real. Me = brainwashed. Reason #270 for my extremely shaky and non-trusting feelings towards the religion I was brought up in. So even though I don’t believe in “in limbo”, I have turned it into a much nicer place, one I wouldn’t mind so much being stuck in.

France Trip – Day 9

The last day of the trip was spent visiting the Père Lachaise Cemetery and the Eiffel Tower. The cemetery completely surprised me. It was more like a sprawling beautiful city with alleys and cobblestone roads everywhere, it was drizzling and pretty much the quintessential gothic cemetery experience. Hannah, Marin, Hunter & I searched aimlessly for Jim Morrison’s grave for an hour which turned out to be sort of unremarkable compared to what my imagination held. I guess I was expecting empty whisky bottles littered everywhere and sketchy people who had done far too many psychedelics back in the day crying on his grave listening to “The End”. Ohhh well. Next. The Eiffel Tower was touristy and pretty much what I thought it would be. But it was by far the most fun I’ve ever had on a global landmark due to the twisted conversations that took place outside on that thing. MJ’s “Thriller” was being played on the speakers, making it even more surreal. I will always remember how happy, alive and understood I felt by the people I was with, for no particular reason other than just being completely content. It distracted me from the fact I was super high up in the air, in limbo, which I don’t enjoy much. Followed was the last train ride and the last dinner, both which were memorable as well. Back to life it goes, back to driving, understanding things when people speak to me, waaay less awkward moments with strangers, not eating chocolate croissants and coffee, trying hard and failing to adjust to the lack of constant witty banter and breaking out into fits of painful laughter. But also inspired to continue my adventures in Austin and looking forward to all of the projects I am working on. Now comes planning my next trip…

France Trip – Day 8

Entirely fitting it was that the Prix Du Lys horse races occured on my Dad’s birthday…even more so that this post happens to fall on Father’s Day. So these photographs are a tribute to my Dad who loved betting on horses and going to the horse races. If left to my own devices I could’ve spent all day there. Thousands of elegant (looking) people with intricate looking hats…uhhh French swag everywhere. I was able to get 1 hour of alone time to photograph and so this is what transpired, not much but oh well. Being someone who frequently needs alone time, surprisingly this was the first time I happened to be alone throughout the entire duration of the trip. Strangely enough I found myself missing everyone so I headed back 15 min early. Awwww. I guess this means I may need to adopt a teenager or 8? WTF? Me?! Yeppp. After the races a few of us went on a forest walk in Chantilly to finish the day.
